Garage Door Spring Replacement: Key Suggestions

Garage door spring replacement is a common problem faced by garage door owners.  The garage door spring can wear down due to daily wear-and-tear.  Especially when considering the vital role that the garage door spring plays in maintaining the garage door's function, the fact that broken springs are one of the most common garage door maintenance problems is understandable. 

The primary role of the springs is to help lift and lower the garage door.  The springs are wires which are wound at a very high tension; this high tension is what allows the springs to bear the weight of the garage door, and aid the garage door opener in moving the garage door.

2.  Check that the garage door repairman is doing the basic measurements neccessary to choose the right garage door spring.  Is he checking how much the garage door wieghs?  Is he checking for problems other than the garage door springs which may hinder your garage door's functionality in the future? 

3.  Make sure that the garage door technician has a clean work space within which to operate.  Cleaning out the garage from obstructions will not only cut down the time that the garage door repairman must work, it can also ensure that the garage door repairman can do a better job because he will have a clean workspace. 

4.  Remember that many garage door technicians will advise you to change both garage door springs because they presume that if one spring has worn out, the other spring may be close to failing also.
